A Little About Us

Algae Depot® is a Veteran Owned and Operated Company

During our childhood, we were filled with the love and passion of owning and maintaining freshwater fish tanks and of course, couldn’t afford to own a saltwater aquarium. Over the years, learning more and more, came the desire to get into reef tanks and start growing corals. Of course, the movie Finding Nemo excited us, so can you guess what the first species of fish we owned? You guessed it, Clownfish! Many of us had various sizes and designs of reef tanks, but most of us started with clownfish and then into Tangs and before you knew it, we were spending all of our money to get the latest and greatest corals from the local fish stores.

Fast forward a few more years, and you’ll find a group of friends that shared the same passion about reef keeping and so began our journey into full blown reef builds, corals, copepods, and macroalgae. As most of you know, copepods are an essential food source to any reef aquarium so we dove head first into learning everything about them and how to reproduce them. Phytoplankton is the primary food source that copepods require to grow and reproduce so guess what happened next? Our scientific journey into aqua culturing has officially been launched.

After countless hours of scientific research and case studies, we finally realized that what we loved more than reefing, was the science behind copepods and phytoplankton life forms. At that moment, it was time to build a laboratory to ensure we had an extremely sterile and stable environment to culture the various species of copepods and phytoplankton.

Our Mission

Our goal in this industry is to use the knowledge we have gained over the decade, and start giving back to the reefing community and offer our products to the public. Because we have a true passion in this hobby, we are right there with you when it comes to showing the same care for our own reef tank and culture systems. Customer satisfaction is extremely important to us, so for anyone that has questions about reef keeping, growing phytoplankton, or reproducing copepods, we are here to ensure you get every bit of knowledge to assist you along the way.
